  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Joel Toppen -- Good but not great : The kindle edition is quite riddled with typos. Obviously it is a scanned document. It is readable, but the sheer number of typos certainly detracts from its value. As for the content, I found numerous causes for disagreement with the author's conclusions. The solitary value of the book in my estimation lies in how the author labors combine the historical literature of 1 Kings, 2 Kings, and 2 Chronicles into a single narrative. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Linda W -- Readable history : This book does a very good job of pulling Biblical accounts together with other known sources to provide insightful background to reading the Bible. Lacked a star because of poor editing and proofreading, which did an injustice to the good content. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2018 )

Secondly there are sentences in the book that are so long (5 rows) that its hard to understand what the author is trying to tell. It is informative but not enjoying to read. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from warbirdsdreamer -- 4 Stars because it's a classic. It's really pedantic. : If you read the biblical accounts you will get most of what you need. The author does provide some good information from extra biblical sources, but he does not always tell you where he is getting the additional info from. And it's not always clear that it is historically accurate info; some of what the extra biblical writers included was hearsay or uncorroborated information. It has value as a classic but if you want to know this history, read the Bible and go to the primary sources yourself. That's always the best way. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Andy S. -- A good compilation of the kings. : This is a good arrangement of scripture by kings. It accumulates the scripture for each king and comments on them. The one quote that no father would ever want to b3 attributed to him is “It was fortunate for Josiah that his father died so young, since he in this way escaped the corrupting and degrading influences which would otherwise have been brought to bear upon him as he passed from youth to manhood.” ( Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2020 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from J New... -- historical info added in with the Biblical hostory of the northern 10-tribes of "Israel" kings. : On the whole fairly interesting & gives a fuller view of the foreign kings & political /military situations involved & influencing decisions & actions of these kings. There are several typos that at times can confuse the intended atatement, but no worse than in an Agatha Christie collection book of Poirot stories in Kindle ebook form that I have. for further background info when reading about these kings. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Michael S. Adams -- A Candid and Accurate Look at Biblical History : I liked the historical depth that was given to it. I am a student of The Bible and a follower of Jesus. I really enjoy books that go deeper into biblical history. This was no exception. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2020 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Dave -- History of the Kings after Solomon : Well this is a historical account of the Kings that followed King Solomon of bury Judea and Israel. For the Spiritual acount we have the Bible to show us Gods hand on the Nations and the People this is an narrative of the times and people from a earthly slant if that's how i can put it. It does show some of the historical accounts of the Hand of God but it isn't it main purpose. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 15, 2021 )

Worth a read for a layman like me, to understand and assimilate the OT chapters on Kings and Chronicles better, as I am new to reading the Old Testament. ( Reviewed in India on September 24, 2018 )
